Parsons is among the 13 players on injured reserve for the Packers. They also lost cornerbacks Nate Hobbs and Kamal Hadden during last Saturday’s 41-24 defeat to the Baltimore Ravens, which complicates their defensive plans.
With only three healthy cornerbacks left, Green Bay promoted Jaylin Simpson, Shemar Bartholomew, and Johnathan Baldwin from the practice squad. They also claimed Diggs, hoping he can bring some stability to their weakened secondary.
Despite missing 30 games in the past three seasons, Diggs has started for the Cowboys in the last two weeks. His familiarity with past schemes gives the Packers confidence that he can contribute immediately.
Defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley noted, “We need to find out where Diggs feels most comfortable and leverage that in our strategy.” He highlighted Diggs’ “elite ball skills” and his knack for anticipating plays.
With playoffs approaching, the coaching staff aims to integrate Diggs quickly, as practice time is limited.
One of Diggs’ strengths is his ability to generate turnovers. The Packers currently rank near the bottom in takeaways and interceptions, making his addition crucial. Since 2020, Diggs has maintained a unique record of over 20 interceptions and 60 passes defended despite his injuries.
Safety Xavier McKinney, who played with Diggs at Alabama, expressed high hopes. “We need someone who can make plays, and I think Diggs is that guy,” he said.
Diggs views this as a “wonderful opportunity” for a fresh start after his time in Dallas. He’s focused on his game, wanting to silence any outside distractions. He dreams of reuniting with Parsons next season if he finishes strong.
Regarding his current capabilities, Diggs stated confidently, “I still feel like I’m the best.” He emphasizes being true to himself and improving daily, contributing to team success without being bogged down by accolades.
As the season progresses, Diggs’ performance could be vital to the Packers’ playoff aspirations, becoming the solution they need in a critical time.
