Winston-Salem, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University men’s basketball team had an impressive showing against Virginia University of Lynchburg, winning 112-76 in the C.E. Gaines Center. This victory brings their record to 6-5 overall and 1-1 in the CIAA.
Tyre Boykin led the team, scoring 20 points, while Abou Camara recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Isaiah Ray and Khyelle Ingram contributed with 14 points each.
Looking at the stats, the Rams had a strong performance. They shot 47 times from the field, making 51.6% of their attempts. Three-point shooting was a bit shaky at 28.1%, but they made 75% of their free throws. With 64 rebounds, they dominated the boards and scored 70 points in the paint, including 26 fastbreak points.
During the first half, the Rams quickly built a lead. After a 7-2 run early, they led 11-5 when Boykin sank a three-pointer. A strong 12-3 run brought them to a 24-10 advantage thanks to Ingram’s jumper. They continued to pull away, ending the half at 53-31.
In the second half, a rapid 12-0 run pushed their lead to 65-31, following a three-pointer from Ethan English. The Dragons couldn’t recover, unable to narrow the gap to 20 points.
Looking ahead, Winston-Salem State is set to host Bluefield State University on January 7, with the game starting at 7:30 p.m.
