This offseason, Diggs opted to rehab his knee in South Florida instead of at the Cowboys’ facilities. When asked if this affected his relationship with the Cowboys, Jones responded, “Relationships matter, but players can still thrive even if they aren’t thrilled with their coaches or management.” He emphasized that a player’s focus should be on their performance and their teammates.
Jones expressed deep admiration for players who excel despite the hurdles they face. “NFL players sacrifice a lot to get here. Those who truly seize the opportunity? I can’t praise them enough.”
As the Cowboys prepare for their Week 18 game against the Giants, seeking to finish with a .500 record, Jones acknowledged that the defense has struggled this season. He reflected on the impact of team dynamics. “The defensive performance reflects all of us—management, contracts, personnel. We all share in that responsibility.”
Looking at the broader picture, it’s worth noting that the NFL has seen rising defensive statistics in recent years, with interceptions averaging nearly 1.1 per game in the last season alone, a decrease from approximately 1.5 per game a decade ago. This trend emphasizes the challenges modern defenses face.
