Union College Faces Tough Loss to Brown
On Saturday, Union College’s team took a hit, losing 3-1 to #15 Brown University at Meehan Auditorium. It was a hard-fought match, and Union captain Stephanie Bourque scored the only goal for her team in the first period.
Bourque found the net during a power play, launching a shot that found its way through a crowded slot to give Union an early lead. The team’s momentum faced a challenge, however, as they soon received a penalty. Brown couldn’t convert on the subsequent power play, but they finished the period with a strong 16-8 advantage in shots on goal.
The second period saw a shift in the game. Just five minutes in, Brown’s Sam Broz tipped in a shot to equalize. They then capitalized on a two-on-one break, with Gaily Levy scoring and putting Brown ahead 2-1 before the period ended.
In the third, Brown extended their lead to 3-1 when Margot Norehead scored from close range with less than five minutes to go. Union tried to rally back, pulling their goalie Monja Wagner in a desperate bid for a goal. However, another penalty sent Wagner back to the net, allowing Brown to maintain control without any further scoring. Despite the loss, Wagner made an impressive 51 saves throughout the game.
Next up, Union returns home to face #9 Princeton University and #8 Quinnipiac University. The game against Princeton is set for 6:00 p.m. on Friday, followed by a Saturday afternoon matchup against Quinnipiac at 3:00 p.m.
