Falcons Game Day Update: 5 Player Statuses Revealed for Saints Matchup & Punter Elevated

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Atlanta Falcons have made key updates ahead of their game against the New Orleans Saints.

First up, punter Trenton Gill will join the team as part of their Week 18 practice squad elevation. Gill was signed to the squad just a couple of days ago. He brings solid experience after being drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2022. In 42 games, Gill averaged 46.1 yards per punt and had a 28.6% success rate for kicks inside the 20-yard line. Last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he averaged 43.3 yards per punt over eight games.

In addition to Gill, cornerback A.J. Terrell Jr., defensive lineman Ruke Orhorhoro, and long snapper Liam McCullough are all listed as questionable due to an illness. Thankfully, they participated fully in practice earlier this week.

On the injury front, safety DeMarcco Hellams and defensive lineman Sam Roberts have been downgraded from questionable to out. They were recently activated from injured reserve but are still dealing with ongoing issues: Hellams with a hamstring injury and Roberts with knee and ankle trouble.

The current game status for the Falcons includes:

Questionable:

  • WR Darnell Mooney (knee)
  • WR Drake London (knee)
  • TE Kyle Pitts Sr. (knee)
  • CB A.J. Terrell Jr. (illness)
  • DL Ruke Orhorhoro (illness)
  • LS Liam McCullough (illness)

Out:

  • CB Clark Phillips III (triceps/illness)
  • DL Brandon Dorlus (hamstring)
  • S DeMarcco Hellams (hamstring)
  • DL Sam Roberts (knee/ankle)

As the Falcons gear up for their critical matchup, the impact of these injuries could play a significant role in their performance. Kickoff for the Falcons-Saints game is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. ET at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, with live coverage on FOX.

In recent years, the rivalry between these two teams has intensified. With fan engagement on social media buzzing about player conditions and game predictions, many are eager to see how these updates will affect the outcome. Statistics show that injuries can greatly influence a team’s success; for example, a survey conducted by the NFL in 2022 found that teams dealing with multiple key injuries won only 30% of their games compared to 60% for those with healthier rosters.

With this context, fans can appreciate the stakes involved as their team heads into the final stretch of the season.
