Tyson Fury Set to Make a Comeback: The Heavyweight Champion’s Return to Boxing After a Year Off!

Former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is set to make a comeback to boxing in 2026 after his latest retirement. The 37-year-old last fought in December 2024, losing to Oleksandr Usyk in a heavyweight rematch. Not long after, he announced he was stepping away from the ring.

Recently, fans noticed Fury training in Thailand, sparking rumors about a return. In an Instagram post, he declared, “2026 is that year. Return of the Mac. I’ve been away but I’m back now. There’s nothing better than punching men in the face and getting paid for it.”

Fury’s return isn’t a surprise. His previous retirement raised eyebrows due to his pattern of comebacks. After a victory over Dillian Whyte in 2022, he also retired briefly, only to come back six months later.

Promoter Frank Warren believes Fury will indeed fight again. Plans had been in the works for Fury to fight Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia in early 2026, but those plans now face uncertainty. Joshua was recently injured in a car crash that claimed the lives of two friends.

Fury’s boxing history is impressive. He has a record of 34 wins, two losses (both to Usyk), and one draw against Deontay Wilder. He first became a champion in 2015 after defeating Wladimir Klitschko. After taking more than two years away to address mental health issues, he returned in 2018 and reclaimed his title by defeating Wilder in 2020.

Looking ahead, Fury is eager to avenge his losses to Usyk, who now holds multiple heavyweight belts. However, fan interest in another match between them seems low, and Usyk has mentioned a desire to face Wilder next.

Interestingly, a possible route back to championship contention for Fury could be a matchup with Fabio Wardley, the current WBO champion. This potential fight could reignite interest and excitement in the heavyweight division.

For those following boxing, it’s a time of anticipation. As Fury maps out his return, fans will be eagerly awaiting updates on his training and future matchups. The heavyweight scene is about to become much more dynamic again.
