Evangeline Lilly Opens Up About Her Battle with Brain Injury Following Beach Accident

Evangeline Lilly, known for her roles in the Marvel franchise and the TV show “Lost,” recently opened up about a traumatic brain injury she sustained after a fall in Hawaii. In an Instagram video, she shared that scans revealed her brain isn’t functioning at full capacity.

Lilly expressed relief at learning that her symptoms weren’t related to perimenopause, as she had thought. She plans to work with doctors to address these issues. Reflecting on her experience, she mentioned, “My cognitive decline has encouraged me to slow down.” This has led to one of her most restful holidays in years.

The fall occurred in May when Lilly fainted at the beach and hit her face on a boulder. Although she went to the hospital right after the accident, the medical staff focused more on why she fainted rather than her injuries. Previously, she had fainting spells from a young age but had no clear diagnosis. Doctors initially thought it could be hypoglycemia, but that was ruled out later.

Interestingly, a survey by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke indicates that brain injuries often lead to long-term cognitive issues in many people. This highlights the importance of proper medical attention after such incidents.

Despite her challenges, Lilly described feeling grateful for the pause life forced upon her. It’s a reminder of how unexpected incidents can lead us to reassess our lives and priorities. For Lilly, this reset was much-needed. You can read more about her experience here.
