Star quarterback Jaden Craig, Harvard’s all-time leading passer, is transferring to Texas Christian University (TCU). He shared the news with The Crimson on Sunday evening. With Josh Hoover leaving TCU for Indiana, Craig is set to take the starting spot this fall.
Craig entered the transfer portal in early December, deciding against the NFL draft. His experience and adaptable playstyle attracted interest from several major programs. After visiting TCU, he made his decision to join the Horned Frogs.
During his time at Harvard, Craig made a mark by setting records for career passing yards (6,074) and touchdowns (52). His leadership contributed to Harvard’s 19-5 record in the games he started, helping the team earn an Ivy League title each year he played.
The Horned Frogs had a strong season, finishing 9-4 and winning the Alamo Bowl against No. 16 USC. Coach Sonny Dykes has built a competitive program, leading TCU to a national championship game appearance in just his first year. Their offense is known for high yardage, making them a formidable team in the Big 12 conference.
Craig is joining a talented offensive lineup that produced nearly 4,000 passing yards last season. Junior wide receiver Jordan Dwyer, who had 730 yards and seven touchdowns last year, is set to return. With Dwyer stepping into a lead role, Craig’s addition promises to strengthen TCU’s offense even more.
Craig believes he could have pursued an NFL career this fall, as he ranked in the top-10 of Mel Kiper’s quarterback rankings before entering the portal. However, he chose to transfer to develop further as a player.
“I just had a gut feeling,” Craig said. He aims to enhance his skills to better prepare for the next level and appreciated the quality coaching at TCU. Many athletes from Harvard have transferred to FBS teams and found success, showing the high level of competition in the Ivy League, which Craig emphasized.
As he transitions to TCU, Craig is excited about starting spring training and summer workouts. Graduating early with a degree in economics from Harvard also allows him to join his new team without missing a beat.
Reflecting on his past, Craig was once an unranked recruit from Montclair, New Jersey. He committed to Harvard after garnering interest from several schools, describing his immediate connection with the program as love at first sight.
His career took off quickly, leading Harvard to notable victories and consistent performances. In his junior year, he became a finalist for the prestigious Walter Payton Award. Despite a tough loss to Yale, he bounced back in his senior year, showcasing his skills in front of NFL scouts.
Tim Murphy, Harvard’s former head coach, praised Craig, calling him “probably the most talented quarterback we’ve ever had.” As Craig embarks on this new chapter at TCU, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how he continues to develop and make an impact on the field.
