BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — The Golden Globes are back this Sunday! This lively start to Hollywood’s awards season will showcase stars like Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael B. Jordan, and Ariana Grande.
The 83rd Golden Globe Awards kick off at 8 p.m. Eastern at the Beverly Hilton. You can catch it live on CBS or stream it on Paramount+.
Who’s Hosting?
Nikki Glaser returns for her second year as host. She made history last year as the first woman to solo host the show and received great reviews. Glaser is known for her sharp humor and playful jabs. Last year, she joked about Hollywood’s love for Ozempic, a weight-loss medication, calling the night “Ozempic’s biggest night.” She described her experience as “the most fun” of her career, looking forward to making a splash again.
Last year, about 10 million viewers tuned in. While that’s a decrease from a decade ago, it still positions the Globes as the most-watched awards show after the Oscars and Grammys.
This Year’s Nominees
The drama “One Battle After Another” leads with nine nominations, including acting nods for DiCaprio and Chase Infiniti. Surprisingly, it’s categorized as a musical/comedy. Chalamet and George Clooney are in the competition with DiCaprio. In the supporting roles, Grande faces off against Erivo, Stone, and Byrne.
Another strong contender is the Danish film “Sentimental Value,” with eight nominations, including an acting nod for Renate Reinsve. In the drama category, she competes with Buckley, Roberts, and Lawrence.
For male actors, Jordan and Dwayne Johnson are among the nominees. The hit series “The White Lotus” dominates the TV nominations with six.

Significance of the Globes
The Golden Globes, usually held in early January, are the first big event of the awards season. Although the winners don’t always predict Oscars, a Globes win can boost a film’s Oscar chances. Acceptance speeches often resonate through awards season, giving them extra weight leading up to the Oscars on March 15.
Lifetime Achievement Awards
This year, Helen Mirren will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her long career in film, while Sarah Jessica Parker will be honored with the Carol Burnett Award for her television contributions. Mirren, known for her Oscar-winning role in “The Queen,” has won three Globes and is nominated for a fourth this year for “MobLand.” Meanwhile, Parker, celebrated for her role in “Sex and the City,” is a six-time Globe winner.
The DeMille Award, given since 1952, recognizes outstanding achievements in film. Notable past recipients include Walt Disney and Meryl Streep. The Carol Burnett Award honors contributions to TV and was first awarded in 2019. Other past recipients include Ryan Murphy and Ellen DeGeneres.
As we await the Golden Globes, many fans are already chatting on social media, sharing excitement over nominees and speculating on who might take home awards.
