New Delhi, Jan 6 – Indian Railways has achieved a remarkable milestone by producing the highest number of General and non-AC coaches to date. As travel costs rise, this initiative aims to accommodate the increasing demand for affordable transportation.
For the years 2025-26, Indian Railways plans to introduce 4,838 new LHB General and non-AC coaches. This number will slightly increase to 4,802 in 2026-27. This step is part of a larger effort to modernize its fleet and enhance passenger experience.
The expansion of Amrit Bharat Express services, with 13 additional trains launched, aims to enhance connectivity across regions. This brings the total to 30 non-AC Amrit Bharat Express services. Additionally, two Namo Bharat Rapid Rail services are now operational, reinforcing the network’s commitment to efficient travel solutions.
On the technology front, new features like Aadhaar-based Tatkal bookings have improved the ticketing process, making it more reliable. In a significant move, Indian Railways has shut down 5.73 crore suspicious IRCTC accounts to ensure a secure travel environment.
Safety is also a top priority. Funding for safety measures has nearly tripled, resulting in a significant reduction in train accidents. To manage peak travel times, over 43,000 special train trips were executed in 2025. Furthermore, 76 stations have been earmarked for building passenger holding areas ahead of the festival season in 2026.
According to a recent report by the National Rail Plan (2020), rail travel in India is expected to double by 2030. This growth emphasizes the necessity for Indian Railways to keep improving its services and infrastructure to meet future demands.
Public reaction online has been mostly positive. Many travelers appreciate the focus on safety and the rise in affordable travel options. Popular social media discussions highlight both excitement and optimism about the future of railway travel in India.
In summary, Indian Railways is taking significant steps to enhance travel experiences, prioritize safety, and modernize its fleet, all while keeping ticket prices accessible. The continuous growth in services reflects a strong commitment to serving the needs of its passengers.
