Latvia has just revealed its team for the Olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina 2026, with Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Elvis Merzlikins leading the squad. This year marks a return of NHL players for Latvia, the first time since their remarkable quarterfinal finish at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Arturs Silovs, the goalie for the Pittsburgh Penguins, shared his thoughts on the team: “I think it’s a solid team. Our success will depend on our preparation.”

In the tournament, all 12 teams will first play three preliminary matches within their groups. The three group winners, along with the best second-place team, will advance straight to the quarterfinals. The remaining eight will compete in elimination rounds to try and secure the last four spots in the knockout stage. The gold medal match is set for February 22.

Merzlikins expressed his excitement: “I’ve waited for this moment my whole career. It feels like a dream come true.”
