Body of Murdered Woman to Be Repatriated to India by January 8, Confirms Union Minister Kishan Reddy

Hyderabad: Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy announced that the remains of Nikitha Godishala, who was recently killed in the U.S., are expected to return to India on January 7 or 8. He confirmed that all necessary legal steps have been taken.

On social media platform X, Reddy shared, “All required procedures have now been completed. Her remains are expected to be flown to India either today or tomorrow.” He also attached a letter from the Indian Embassy in Washington, indicating there are no objections to the repatriation.

Nikitha, 27, originally from Ellicott City, Maryland, was reported missing on January 2. Howard County police later found her dead with stab wounds in the apartment of her ex-roommate, Arjun Sharma, 26. Authorities have issued a warrant for Sharma’s arrest on murder charges, claiming he fled to India after the incident. Nikitha’s family is pressing U.S. officials to issue an international arrest warrant for Sharma.

Such tragic events raise awareness about the safety of individuals, especially young women in foreign countries. According to a recent study by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, the rates of missing person cases have increased by nearly 50% over the past decade, highlighting urgent concerns about safety and systemic responses.

Real-time reactions on social media reflect a community in shock, with many expressing sorrow and outrage. These conversations often emphasize the need for stronger protective measures for individuals living abroad.

This situation underscores the importance of taking swift action in response to violent crime, both internationally and locally, and how advocacy from friends and family can play a crucial role in justice.
