Join the Fight Against Food Insecurity in Arkansas: Discover How Potluck Food Rescue’s App is Making a Difference!

Potluck Food Rescue is on a mission to tackle food insecurity in Arkansas. They’ve recently launched a new app that makes it easy for volunteers to help rescue food from waste, all from their smartphones.

Last year, Potluck Food Rescue saved an impressive 1.4 million pounds of food. Instead of going to landfills, this food reached those who needed it most. Chris Wyman, the Executive Director, emphasizes that many people around us face hunger, even if we don’t see it. He believes we should watch out for our neighbors and understand that resources like SNAP exist to support families facing tough times.

The new Potluck Food Rescue app, powered by Food Rescue Hero, is like Uber Eats but for rescuing food. Users can choose when and how to help, making it flexible and user-friendly.

Wyman points out that food waste is a huge issue in the U.S. Approximately 40% of food goes to waste, while many people are hungry. This challenge affects not just individuals but the environment as well.

The app is not just for adults; students can also use it to earn community service hours, making it a win-win for everyone involved.

In addition, recent studies show that food waste is not only a local problem but a global one. In 2021, the Food and Agriculture Organization reported that food waste could feed 1.26 billion people. This highlights the urgent need for initiatives like Potluck Food Rescue.
