Irvine, CA – The Concordia University Irvine women’s swim and dive team is making waves in 2026!

They kicked off the new year with some exciting meets, showcasing their growth and talent in the pool.

At the Chris Knorr Invite, held at Cal Lutheran, standout performer Carissa Ward won the 200 yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:16.82. Hannah Edwards and Alex Leland also made their mark by finishing third and fourth in the 50 yard freestyle. In a competitive field, it was impressive to see Lilly Hartwell and Mikayla Barre also racing closely behind.

Diving star Kaylee Hurley, a new addition to the team, competed strongly too, securing second place in both the 1 meter and 3 meter events.

In the Biola Quad Meet, the Golden Eagles faced off against the host team, Westmont College, and The Master’s University. The relay team of Ward, Leland, Aranza Martha, and Edwards took second in the 200 Medley Relay. Edwards anchored the team with an impressive 25.14 seconds for her leg, improving their previous time from the Cal Lutheran meet.

Edwards continued to shine, earning third place in the 50 Free with a time of 25.66 seconds. Ward also set a season best in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 1:02.36. Aubrie Carver was right behind in the same event, placing in the Top 10. Leland showed her prowess too, finishing fifth in the 100 breaststroke and teaming up with Martha, Carver, and Edwards for a fifth place finish in the 200 Free Relay. Payton Doak recorded her best time this season in the 100 Fly, clocking in at 1:05.32.

The team’s effort reflects their commitment and hard work. According to a recent survey by the National Federation of State High School Associations, swim participation is on the rise, emphasizing the growing popularity of the sport among young athletes.

The Golden Eagles will next compete at the PCSC Triple Distance meet in Aliso Viejo on January 10th. Exciting times lie ahead for this dedicated team.
