USW Boosts Local Communities: Generous Donations to Food Pantries

The United Steel Workers Local 146 is making a significant impact in the community with their annual holiday donations. This year, they contributed $1,000 each to several local food pantries, including the Salvation Army Food Pantry, the Iron Mountain and Norway St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantries, and Karen’s Food Pantry in Niagara, Wisconsin.

They didn’t stop there. Local 146 also supported first responders, donating to the Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Norway Volunteer Fire Department, and North Alert EMS Ambulance. This outreach is part of a tradition that has lasted over 20 years, demonstrating the group’s commitment to helping those in need.

Members of Local 146 gathered for the donation event, including treasurer Joseph Beauprey, vice president Robert Bal, and other community leaders. This spirit of giving not only supports food security but also strengthens local emergency services.

In a time when many are feeling the pinch of rising living costs, such donations can make a real difference. According to a recent study by Feeding America, food insecurity affects 1 in 8 Americans. Initiatives like this are crucial for bridging that gap, showing how local organizations are stepping up during tough times.

As the community continues to face challenges, the efforts of groups like the United Steel Workers Local 146 serve as a reminder of the power of local support and the importance of lending a hand.
