Anthony Edwards just made NBA history. At just 24 years and 156 days old, he became the third-youngest player to score 10,000 career points. He achieved this milestone during a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers when he hit a 13-foot fadeaway jumper late in the fourth quarter.
Only two players achieved this feat at a younger age: LeBron James and Kevin Durant. Edwards joins a select group of seven players who scored 10,000 points before turning 25, including legends like Kobe Bryant and young stars like Luka Doncic. After the game, Edwards humbly reflected, saying, “It’s cool, but I know I’ve got a lot more to go.” He even joked about passing Kobe in the record books, wishing he could have waited a bit longer.
In addition to his milestone, Edwards delivered an impressive performance that night, scoring 25 points, with nine assists and seven rebounds. His team, the Minnesota Timberwolves, also set season highs in both field goal percentage and three-point shooting during the match.
Coach Chris Finch was quick to praise Edwards, noting that his knack for scoring seems natural. “You knew there was something inside him where he could get to that,” Finch remarked, reminiscing about the first time Edwards scored 40 points in a game early in his career.
Drafted as the first overall pick in 2020, Edwards made a splash in the league from his debut at 19. He reached his 10,000-point mark in just 412 games, making him the 28th fastest player in NBA history to do so. Among current players, only a few have done it quicker: Luka Doncic, LeBron James, and Joel Embiid, to name a few. Remarkably, Edwards is now alongside Kevin Garnett and Karl-Anthony Towns as the only players to reach 10,000 points for the Timberwolves.
