LIFT-UP, a local nonprofit focused on food security, recently celebrated the opening of its new food pantry at the Rifle Branch Library. This move from its previous location, which was cramped and darker, aims to create a welcoming space for community members in need. The new pantry will operate on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Hannah Snaza, the programs manager at LIFT-UP, expressed gratitude to the Garfield County Libraries for providing this much-needed space. “It’s wonderful,” she said at the opening. “This will make a big difference for our guests.” The decision to relocate came after the original building was sold, and LIFT-UP quickly found a supportive partner in the library.
With only a one-day closure for the move, LIFT-UP was able to efficiently transition to the new site. Notably, the library generously offered the space rent-free, allowing LIFT-UP to focus more resources on purchasing food for families in need.
This pantry is part of a broader network that LIFT-UP has established. The organization also runs mobile markets, emergency food assistance, and soup kitchens across the area. “Every effort counts,” Snaza noted. “Last year, we served over 4,000 families in need, and each one represents a story, a challenge, and a community impact.”
At the opening, volunteer Lynn Roe shared her special connection to LIFT-UP. Having served on its board for over a decade and now volunteering, she finds fulfillment in helping families. “When someone says ‘thank you,’ it makes my day,” she shared. “It’s about making sure no one goes hungry.”
Newly appointed executive director Samantha Freese emphasized the importance of community support. “We need to ensure that people feel safe when seeking food assistance,” she said. Freese, who has deep ties to the region, is committed to expanding access and fostering collaborative efforts within the community.
Looking ahead, LIFT-UP plans to relocate its pantry in Parachute in the coming months, continuing its mission to serve those in need. Engaging with the community is crucial, whether through food drives or volunteering. Every bit of support matters in ensuring that no one goes without essential resources.
