Delaware State Police Arrest Wilmington Woman in 2023 Homicide Case: What You Need to Know

The Delaware State Police recently arrested Krista Rule, a 46-year-old Wilmington resident, in connection to a tragic homicide from 2023. Rule’s mother, 72-year-old Denise Wood, was found dead in her bedroom on June 25, 2023. An investigation revealed that Wood had been stabbed.

Detectives identified Rule as a suspect following a thorough inquiry. On January 6, 2026, a Kent County Grand Jury indicted her for murder. The next day, she was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder and possession of a deadly weapon during a felony. She is currently held on a $2.1 million cash bond at the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution.

This incident highlights a troubling trend in domestic violence cases. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the U.S. This statistic illustrates the severity of such situations, where family ties can tragically become lethal.

Experts stress the importance of support systems for those caught in violent relationships. Community resources, such as the Delaware State Police Victim Services Unit, provide crucial aid for victims and their families. For anyone affected by violence or sudden loss, these services are available 24/7 at 1-800-VICTIM-1 or through Delaware Victim Center.

Tragically, the connection between family and violence continues to be a significant issue today, urging communities to pay close attention to warning signs and support those in need.
