Ikea made a splash at CES 2026 with exciting new products, including their Kallsup speakers and smart home devices. One highlight was the Varmblixt collection, which now features two stylish lamps with smart home capabilities.
As I walked into their suite, a shelf caught my eye, adorned with a vibrant rainbow of hues from their new donut lamp. Previously a warm amber, it now shifts through colors, creating a calming atmosphere. An Ikea rep explained that this gradual color change is intentional.
The donut lamp’s colors are softer than what you’d find in products from Govee, which often offer bolder hues. For indoor lighting, Ikea’s approach feels less overwhelming and more inviting.
Another standout was a pendant lamp made of sleek, bent tubes. Unlike the donut lamp, this one focuses solely on various shades of white light, transitioning gently from warm to cool tones, similar to Philips Hue’s options.
Both lamps are Matter-compatible, meaning they can integrate seamlessly with most smart home systems. If you prefer a simple setup, Ikea includes a handy remote to dim the pendant lamp or cycle through 12 colors designed by artist Sabine Marcelis for the donut lamp.
According to a recent market report, smart home devices are expected to see a growth of 25% over the next few years. This trend reflects growing consumer interest in home automation and connectivity.
Ikea is also planning a collaboration with Marcelis on a new collection set to launch in 2027. However, details about future smart home devices from this partnership remain under wraps.
The Varmblixt lamps are set for release in April, priced at $99.99 for the donut lamp and $149.99 for the pendant.
