The team initially struggled with Wyll’s quest and decided to restart his arc mid-development. Unfortunately, this change left Wyll with less time and attention in the final version of the game.
VanOrd mentioned that while most of the main cast had solid narratives, Wyll’s development happened late in the process. A notable plotline involving Wyll at the Red War College was ultimately cut, which impacted his backstory as the son of Duke Ravengard. VanOrd developed this element right before he faced health issues, leading to delays in finalizing Wyll’s character.
Wyll’s sub-quest, the Wyrmway, emerged from the decision to utilize resources for a specific dungeon linked to him. However, VanOrd noted that he could only create a dungeon boss due to time constraints, which limited the depth of the quest.
Looking back, VanOrd called it a “mistake” to divide Wyll’s journey in that way. He expressed pride in the character’s essence—his sincerity and eager heroism—while acknowledging a desire for a more gratifying conclusion for Wyll. Fans have even taken it upon themselves to create their interpretations of a better ending.
