Illinois Surgeon Arrested for Ex-Wife’s Murder: Shocking Weapons Discovered on Property, Police Reveal

A weapon linked to the tragic deaths of an Ohio dentist and his wife was found at the home of the woman’s ex-husband, an Illinois surgeon now facing charges in their murders. According to Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant, multiple firearms were recovered from Michael McKee’s property. Preliminary findings suggest that one of these guns is connected to the couple’s homicides.

Monique Tepe, 39, and her husband Spencer, 37, were discovered lifeless in their Columbus home on December 30. Concerned friends and family called authorities after failing to reach the couple. A friend who visited the home found Spencer lying in a pool of blood, and the couple’s young children could be heard crying in the background.

McKee, 39, who was married to Monique for a brief time before their divorce in 2017, was arrested on Saturday and charged with two counts of aggravated murder. He is expected to plead not guilty, according to his public defender. Chief Bryant noted that this was a “targeted attack” related to domestic violence, although she did not disclose a specific motive.

Surveillance footage reportedly captured McKee’s vehicle near the Tepe residence just before the incident. The heartbreaking nature of this case has drawn attention not only from local officials, like Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther, but also from communities concerned about rising domestic violence incidents. Research shows that cases of domestic violence have increased in many areas during the pandemic, highlighting the urgent need for awareness and intervention.

McKee is a vascular surgeon at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Illinois, about 90 miles from Chicago. As of Monday, he is being held in Winnebago County Jail, awaiting extradition to Ohio.

This tragic situation has irrevocably impacted the lives of the couple’s children. Experts point out that the emotional fallout for kids in such circumstances can be profound and long-lasting. Community support and counseling may be crucial as they navigate their grief.

With ongoing investigations, details may continue to emerge. It’s a reminder of the importance of addressing domestic violence and providing support to those in need.
