AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas women’s basketball team faced off against McMurry, but they fell short, losing 66–58 in a competitive game at the Deb and Don Christian Fieldhouse.
The Tornados had a tough start. McMurry quickly built an 8–0 lead and guided their way to a 25–18 lead by the end of the first quarter. Despite hitting six three-pointers, CTX struggled with rebounding. McMurry’s strong performance on the boards gave them multiple scoring chances.
By halftime, McMurry expanded their lead to 42–31, thanks to their dominant inside play. They finished the game with an impressive 59 rebounds, including 22 offensive boards, which led to key second chances.
However, CTX found some solutions off the bench. Taysie Trejo led the team with 14 points, making four three-pointers and adding four assists. Alice Wilkinson and Shanna Brown also contributed 10 points each, showcasing the depth of the Tornados’ roster. Kiyah Hatcher nearly achieved a double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds in just 21 minutes of play.
Even after trailing by 17 points in the third quarter, the Tornados didn’t back down. They fought back in the fourth, connecting on several late threes that narrowed the deficit to single digits. But McMurry’s early advantage proved too much to overcome.
Concordia Texas will look to bounce back in their upcoming games. As they continue in SCAC play, maintaining this fighting spirit could be crucial for their success.
