India’s First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Launches
Prime Minister Modi recently launched India’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train from Malda in West Bengal. This marks an exciting development for Indian Railways as they modernize and enhance regional transport.
The new train will travel on the Howrah–Guwahati (Kamakhya) route, connecting eastern India with the Northeast. It aims to make long-distance rail travel faster and more comfortable. With modern interiors and safety features, the train offers a new experience for overnight travelers.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw described the launch as a “gift” to West Bengal. He highlighted that better connectivity could stimulate the growth of IT hubs and local economies. According to a recent survey, improved rail services can increase tourism and job opportunities in these regions.
The Vande Bharat service is tailored for those who value comfort and speed for long journeys. Though official prices haven’t been announced yet, they are likely to be competitive with existing premium overnight trains.
In addition to the train launch, PM Modi also initiated several infrastructure projects in the area worth over ₹3,250 crore. These include new train services and the redevelopment of 101 railway stations across West Bengal. Major upgrades are also planned for New Jalpaiguri Railway Station to enhance its services.
After the railway events, Modi will participate in a cultural showcase in Assam, celebrating the heritage of the Bodo community. More than 10,000 performers will participate in traditional dances, emphasizing the region’s cultural richness.
The launch of the Vande Bharat sleeper train and the associated infrastructure projects reflect a strong push towards enhancing connectivity in India. These developments not only aim to improve travel but also foster economic growth and cultural appreciation.
