India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train is set to transform long-distance overnight travel starting January 22. Operated by the Northeast Frontier Railway, this semi-high-speed train is designed for comfort and efficiency.
The train, numbered 27576 Kamakhya-Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, will run daily except Wednesdays. The reverse route, train 27575 Howrah-Kamakhya, will operate daily except Thursdays. This new service stops at 13 key stations along the route, including Bandel, Nabadwip Dham, and Aluabari Road, making it accessible to many travelers.
The train’s coach composition includes 16 coaches: 11 AC 3-tier, four AC 2-tier, and one AC first class, offering a range of travel classes to suit different budgets.
Travel times are approximately 14 hours, with the Howrah-Kamakhya service departing at 18:20 and arriving at 08:20 the next day. The Kamakhya-Howrah route leaves at 18:15, reaching its destination by 08:15.
This service is part of a broader push by Indian Railways to modernize its fleet. In recent years, passenger train travel has seen a significant rise, with the Indian Railways reporting a 10% increase in ridership last year. As travelers seek more comfort and speed, the introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train could be a game-changer in meeting these demands.
