Guwahati, Assam—On January 19, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya met with six trainees from the 2025 batch of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) at Lok Bhavan in Guwahati. He emphasized the important role these diplomats play in promoting India’s interests abroad.
Governor Acharya highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on “people-centric diplomacy.” He noted that IFS officers are not just representatives of the government; they embody India’s values and culture. They carry the responsibility of protecting national interests with professionalism and care. He encouraged the trainees to uphold constitutional values and foster peace and mutual understanding between countries.
The Governor congratulated the trainees for being chosen for one of the most respected roles in the nation, expressing confidence in their future contributions to India’s global image.
On a related note, earlier that week, Prime Minister Modi launched India’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train from Malda, West Bengal. Governor Acharya and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma joined the ceremony virtually from Kamakhya Railway Station in Guwahati. The train will connect Guwahati and Kolkata, covering 972 km in just 14 hours.
Governor Acharya described the train’s launch as a proud moment for India, stating, “This ultra-modern train signifies that our progress is rooted in tradition.” He pointed out that this initiative reflects Modi’s vision of combining development with respect for India’s cultural heritage.
This significant event highlights the ongoing efforts to blend modernity with tradition in India’s growth story, showing how advancements can coexist with cultural values. According to a recent report from the Ministry of Railways, these new trains aim to enhance travel efficiency and comfort across the country.
