Tuna products recalled in 2025 due to potential botulism contamination have been recalled again. This latest issue happened after some previously recalled cans mistakenly made their way back to stores in nine states. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported that the tuna, produced by Tri-Union Seafoods, raised serious health concerns.
In February 2025, the company first recalled some of its products. They had issues with the “easy open” pull tab design, which could leak or allow contamination from a dangerous bacterium, Clostridium botulinum. This bacterium can cause severe food poisoning, leading to symptoms like weakness, dizziness, double vision, and difficulties with swallowing or speaking.
In January 2026, Tri-Union announced another recall when it discovered that previously quarantined products were sent to stores, including Meijer, Giant Foods, and several chains in California like Safeway and Albertsons.

If you’ve purchased any of these recalled tuna products, it’s best to dispose of them immediately, regardless of their appearance. Even if the cans look fine, using the tuna can pose serious health risks. For those who might have consumed the recalled tuna and feel unwell, it’s crucial to seek medical help right away.
