The Nagercoil-Mangaluru Amrit Bharat Express is set to launch soon. This train will link the southern tip of Tamil Nadu with the coastal regions of Karnataka via Kerala, enhancing rail connectivity along the western coast.
This new service aims to make long-distance travel quicker and more affordable, which may encourage tourism and support local economies. Areas like fishing and small businesses could particularly benefit from this enhanced connectivity.
The train will operate under the numbers 16329 and 16330, traveling through key stations like Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Kottayam. It will stop at 20 stations, including Kasaragod, Kannur, Thalassery, Kozhikode, and Thrissur.
As for its schedule, it will run weekly, departing from Nagercoil every Tuesday and from Mangaluru every Wednesday. The Nagercoil-Mangaluru Amrit Bharat Express will leave Nagercoil at 11:40 PM and arrive in Mangaluru the next day at 5:00 AM. On its return journey, it will leave Mangaluru at 8:00 AM and reach Nagercoil at 10:05 PM on the same day.
According to the Ministry of Railways, this service is expected to improve not just travel but also the social fabric by connecting people and communities across these states. With recent tourism stats showing a rising interest in domestic travel, this train could be a game-changer. In 2022, domestic tourism in India saw a 60% increase compared to 2021, signaling a strong recovery post-pandemic.
Expert opinions suggest that better connectivity can lead to economic growth. Shiva Ramakrishnan, a travel analyst, mentions, “Transport links like this train not only ease travel but also open avenues for trade and commerce, making regions thrive.”
Overall, the Nagercoil-Mangaluru Amrit Bharat Express is more than just a train; it’s a crucial link for millions, promising a brighter future for southern coastal communities.
