The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Morningside University is hiring an Assistant Professor of Computer Science for a nine-month position starting on August 10, 2026. This role emphasizes a modern and hands-on approach to teaching computer science, particularly as the field evolves with technology like AI and large language models.
Key Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will:
- Teach a variety of undergraduate courses, covering both core concepts and electives.
- Be prepared to instruct in areas such as programming, data science, software engineering, and cybersecurity.
- Help update the curriculum, creating innovative courses that align with current industry trends.
- Use project-based learning and collaborative teaching methods, emphasizing ethical computing.
- Mentor students and guide project teams, working with both local employers and community groups.

Required Qualifications
Candidates should:
- Hold at least a Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Have experience in the industry or a strong teaching background.
- Show the ability to foster a supportive, collaborative learning environment.
While traditional research isn’t mandatory, creativity and a focus on excellent undergraduate education are important.
Teaching Load
The standard load is 24 credit hours per year, with a May Term assignment every three years.
