Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg indoor track and field teams showcased impressive performances at the Liberty Open, facing off against Division I competitors.
Senior Lamont Victoria made headlines with two standout achievements. He cleared a remarkable 6′ 10¾” in the high jump, tying the school’s indoor record set by David Lichtenstein. This jump also secured Victoria the top spot on the Division III qualifying lists. Additionally, he ran the second-fastest 60m in the program’s history, finishing in 6.81 seconds.
Chasen Hunt also shone, placing second in the men’s mile with a time of 4:05.99, the second-fastest in Division III. Hunt has returned to action after a semester at the University of North Carolina, looking to add to his collection of two national titles.
In the women’s 800m, Hannah Edwards finished fifth with a time of 2:17.02. While this is not her personal best, it still ranks as the 11th fastest in Division III.
Cameron Sidebotham led the men’s 3,000m invite, finishing ninth in 8:37.70. Johnathan Cobb followed close behind in 10th place with an 8:39.26.
Aidan Riggle and Alex Paciello marked personal records in the open 3,000m, placing third and fifth, respectively, with times of 8:47.06 and 8:48.76.
In field events, Kacey Kelly jumped 38′ 4″ in the women’s triple jump, placing eighth. Chris Watkins also made strides, reaching a personal best of 13′ 1½” in the pole vault.
As the Hornets prepare for their next competition at the Steamer Showcase and Roanoke Bast-Cregger Invitational, they continue to demonstrate growth and talent on the track.
