Due to a severe winter storm, County Executive Adam Bello has declared a State of Emergency in Monroe County. This declaration allows for quick road closures and faster responses from emergency services. Governor Hochul has also declared a statewide State of Emergency.
Alongside this, a travel advisory is in place. While it doesn’t officially stop travel, it warns drivers of hazardous conditions ahead. Bello encourages residents to avoid unnecessary trips so first responders and snow plows can operate effectively. Keeping roads clear is vital for reaching those in need during real emergencies.
“The potential severity of the Winter Storm means we must act for safety. Residents should take this advisory seriously. Avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary to help our teams respond quickly,” said County Executive Adam Bello.
If you do need to drive, make sure to clear snow from your vehicle. Drive cautiously, keep a safe distance from others, and stay away from snow plows and salt trucks.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Monroe County from 7 a.m. January 25 to 7 a.m. January 27. Expect snow accumulations between 12 and 18 inches, making travel particularly challenging.
Monroe County’s Office of Emergency Management will keep an eye on weather and road conditions, providing updates as needed.
