In December, 254 different families visited the Love Center, resulting in a total of 342 visits. This reflects the growing need in our community. The center received a generous 36,334 pounds of food from the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank and 16,855 pounds from local businesses, churches, and individuals. It’s clear that the community cares deeply.
Many churches contributed to this effort. Notable congregations included Berlin Christian Fellowship, St. John’s Lutheran Ladies Aid, and St. Peter’s Catholic Church, among others. These groups not only provided food but also helped raise awareness about hunger in our area.
Local businesses also stepped up. Some of the generous contributors included McDonald’s Millersburg, Guggisberg Cheese Factory, and Kauffman Bakery. These businesses play a crucial role in supporting those in need. Their involvement highlights how important it is for local economies to give back.
Individuals made a significant impact too. The contributions from community members—like Michelle Alexander and David Yoder—show that everyone can make a difference. Every bit helps, and it all adds up.
Volunteers logged 700 hours at the Love Center, demonstrating how much dedication there is to helping others. This commitment is vital, especially during the holidays when many families face food insecurity.
According to recent statistics, food insecurity has risen in many communities, with about 9% of U.S. households experiencing hunger this past year. This data underscores the importance of local initiatives like the Love Center in combating hunger.
