Microsoft is set to enhance Windows 11 with better support for using Android apps on PCs. Last year, the company rolled out a feature that let users resume OneDrive sessions from their Android devices right on their PCs. Now, they are expanding this capability to include apps like Spotify, Word, Excel, and web browsing.
The latest updates are part of the Release Preview for Windows 11, which began rolling out recently. This means users can now enjoy seamless transitions. For instance, if you’re playing music on Spotify or working on a document, you can pick up right where you left off on your PC.
This new feature is reminiscent of Apple’s Handoff on macOS, allowing users to switch tasks effortlessly among devices. Microsoft first introduced the idea of cross-device resuming at their Build developer conference last year. It did have a similar feature in Windows 10, called Project Rome, but it never gained much traction among developers.
The upcoming update also includes improvements to MIDI 2.0 support, better voice typing, and enhanced fingerprint sensor security with Windows Hello. Plus, if you have a Copilot Plus PC, you’ll get support for multiple languages, including Spanish, Japanese, and Chinese.
Interestingly, a recent survey showed that 67% of users prefer a seamless experience across their devices, indicating a strong demand for features like this one. As technology continues to evolve, the ability to work smoothly across devices is becoming a standard expectation.
