A new album from Ye, the artist known as Kanye West, is coming out on March 20. He has teamed up with Gamma, an independent music company, to release Bully, his twelfth studio album.
Ye has been working on Bully for more than three years. He even created a short film to go along with it. This film, edited by Hype Williams and featuring his son, Saint West, debuted in March 2025. Although the exact details about the album’s release are still unclear, Rolling Stone has confirmed that it was finished before Ye’s recent open letter in the Wall Street Journal.
In this letter, Ye expressed regret for his past antisemitic remarks and controversial behavior. He also discussed his struggles with bipolar disorder and reflected on his failure to support the Black community. He stated, “I’m not asking for sympathy, or a free pass, though I aspire to earn your forgiveness. I write today simply to ask for your patience and understanding as I find my way home.” However, the letter didn’t address any ongoing legal issues he faces, including a lawsuit by a former assistant.
The press release for Bully describes it as a reflection of Ye’s internal struggles with “remorse, memory, ego, faith, and consequence.” It emphasizes that this album isn’t just an apology; instead, Ye aims to use music as a way of storytelling during challenging times.
Ye’s previous album, Donda 2, was released in 2022 through the audio remix device Stem Player. He also paid for the Wall Street Journal ad space himself.
Rolling Stone reviewed an early version of Bully, mentioning that Ye claimed half of the vocals were created using AI. Yet, the review noted that the album also contains echoes of Ye’s earlier work. “On Bully, Ye sounds like he did on 808’s and Heartbreak, reaching emotional heights,” the review stated.
