Barry Family Director of Sailing, John Mollicone, recently unveiled the spring 2026 sailing schedule for Brown University. Both the open and women’s teams will participate in 35 events between late February and May, vying for eight conference and national titles.
The season kicks off on February 28, with three events. The open team will host the Liam O’Keefe Trophy Team Race and compete at the Thames River Team Race in Connecticut. The women’s team will be at the Harvard Women’s Team Race.
Brown will host four events this spring, starting with the Liam O’Keefe Trophy. The women’s team will also hold the Dellenbaugh Women’s Team Race on March 28-29. They will host two conference championships: the NEISA Open Team Race on April 4-5 and the NEISA Open Fleet Race on April 18-19. All home events will take place at the Ted Turner ’60 Pavilion in Cranston, R.I.
Additional conference championships include the NEISA Women’s Team Race at Tufts on April 11-12 and the NEISA Women’s Championship at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on April 18-19.
The 2026 season will wrap up with the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) National Championships in late April and May. The ICSA Open Team Racing National Championships are scheduled for April 23-25, while the Women’s championships will be held from April 26-27. The ICSA Women’s Fleet Race National Championships will take place from May 15-18, followed by the Open Fleet Race Championships from May 19-22, both at USF.
Recent trends have shown a growing interest in collegiate sailing. According to a 2022 survey by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, sailing participation has increased by 12% over the past five years. This surge highlights the sport’s appeal and the importance of programs like Brown’s in fostering young talent.
Social media has also played a role in connecting fans with sailing events. Enthusiasts frequently share race highlights on platforms like Instagram, bringing greater visibility to teams and their achievements.
