The Kansas Track & Field team is gearing up for the DeLoss Dodds Invitational in Manhattan, Kansas, happening on January 30-31 at the Cliff Rovelto Indoor Track. This two-day event will see the action start at 11 a.m. on Friday and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Recently, the Jayhawks shone at the Thane Baker Invitational, securing 12 podium finishes, including five top spots. Ashton Barkdull in the men’s pole vault and Mason Meinershagen in the women’s pole vault were among the standout performers, along with Quenton Walion in the mile, Maddie Fey in shot put, and Sam Trumble in the 3,000 meters.
Coach Stanley Redwine expressed optimism about the upcoming meet. “I think we’re making progress since our last event, and it’ll be exciting to see our multi-event athletes in action,” he said.
According to the latest USTFCCCA rankings, the Kansas men’s team is 36th in the nation, while the women rank 50th. This weekend, they’ll face tough competition from teams like Oklahoma, Air Force, and Nebraska, all of whom are ranked highly.
The meet will kick off with pentathlon events on Friday at 10:45 a.m. Track events will commence with the 800 meters at 4:15 p.m. and conclude with the 4×400 meter relays on Saturday at 6 p.m.
In addition to the fierce competition, the meet features four World Athletics Indoor Tour Bronze events, including both the men’s high jump and women’s pole vault scheduled for Friday evening.
