PITTSBURG — Deyanna Douglas shone bright, scoring 24 points to lead the Northeastern State University RiverHawks to an exciting 80-76 victory over No. 11 Pittsburg State University on January 28.
The Gorillas got off to a strong start, leading by 12 points at 53-41 with just over three minutes left in the third quarter. However, NSU turned the tide, scoring 16 of the next 19 points to pull ahead 58-57 early in the fourth quarter. The RiverHawks kept the momentum going, extending their lead to eight points at 68-60 just three minutes later. This win marked their sixth consecutive victory.
Ja’Miya Brown led Pitt State with 22 points, supported by Kaycee McCumber and Marin Adams, who added 12 and 11 points, respectively. Harper Screiner also made an impact, contributing nine points, ten rebounds, and four assists.
Pittsburg State struggled with ball control, committing 20 turnovers that proved costly. The RiverHawks also capitalized at the free-throw line, outscoring the Gorillas 20-9.
Gabrielle Tilly added notable support for Northeastern State with 16 points and seven rebounds.
Looking to bounce back, Pitt State’s next game is against the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith on January 31 at 1:30 PM CST at John Lance Arena.
