Carroll Swim and Dive Team Shines at District Meet: Highlights and Victories!

Carroll’s swim and dive teams had an impressive showing at the District 4-6A Championships held at the Northwest ISD Aquatic Center. Both the boys and girls clinched district titles in style.

The Dragon boys swam strong, racking up 192 points, far ahead of Keller’s 145. They qualified all three relays, two divers, and 21 individual swims for the upcoming regionals. The boys set the pace early with stellar performances in the relays. The 200 medley relay, featuring William Zhang, Pierce Chapman, Finn McAteer, and Colin Heintz, secured second place. They followed up with district titles in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, with impressive teamwork from Dylan Heldenbrand, Ethan Jetty, Heintz, and Kobe Dickheiser.

In individual events, Jack Ma took home the diving title, with Dhylan Patel finishing a strong second. Dickheiser and Zhang dominated the 200 freestyle, taking the first two spots, while Dickheiser also excelled in the 500 freestyle. Heldenbrand swept both the 50 and 100 freestyle, showcasing his speed, with Jetty and Heintz close on his heels. Zhang added a victory in the 100 butterfly, backed up by a strong performance from McAteer.

The girls mirrored this strength, earning the district title with 181 points. They kicked off their competition with a win in the 200 medley relay, thanks to Taryn Plows, Emma Bibza, Jenna Khalaf, and Olivia Colombo. They capped off their day with a win in the 400 freestyle relay, solidifying their dominance. Bibza led in the individual events, winning the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly. Colombo also shined, winning the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.

In diving, the Lady Dragons pulled off a remarkable sweep, taking the top four spots. Bella Sanouvong was the standout, capturing the district title, followed closely by Reese Calvin, Sophia Borowski, and Lucy Reynolds.

This strong showing not only boosts team morale but also sets a precedent. According to recent data from the National Federation of State High School Associations, competitive swimming and diving are increasing in popularity, with participation rates growing year over year. This growth is evident in the passionate performances witnessed at the district championships.

As Carroll moves forward, they’re gearing up for the Region 1-6A Swim and Dive Championships in Midland on February 6-7. With this momentum, they’re ready to make waves at the next level!
