Bug Hall, the actor known for his role as Alfalfa in The Little Rascals, has made some big life changes. He now describes himself as a “radical Catholic extremist.” In a recent chat with The Daily Mail, Hall shared that he and his wife live off the grid in rural Arkansas with their five kids. They’ve set up hydro-electric power and other systems to fully unplug from mainstream living.
Hall, whose real name is Brandon Barnett, took a serious turn in his life after a 2020 arrest in Texas for inhaling air duster. During that incident, police found him near a dumpster under concerning circumstances. He was charged but managed to post bail quickly. He later reflected on his 15 years of sobriety and how Hollywood’s fast-paced lifestyle led him to hidden struggles with addiction.
In hindsight, Hall considers that arrest a wake-up call. He realized that he wanted to escape the manipulative aspects of fame and seek a simpler, more honest life. “I didn’t want to go work some job that was basically meaningless,” he said.
His transformation included giving away his savings and material possessions, which he described as “a big pile of nothing.” Hall feels this decision opened doors to a deeper purpose and fulfillment. “It really wasn’t all that great of a sacrifice compared to what our Lord had planned for me in return,” he noted.

According to recent studies, more than 4 million Americans are now living off the grid, reflecting a growing trend away from consumerism.
