The Director General recently met with several world leaders to talk about important issues like development, energy, and global peace. Among those leaders were Panama’s President Jose Raul Mulino, Israel’s President Isaac Herzog, Austria’s Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg, and Flanders’ Minister-President Matthias Diependaele.
One major discussion involved the IAEA’s Atoms4Food program, which focuses on using nuclear technology to improve food security. Mr. Grossi and Mr. Mulino also talked about enhancing cancer care through the IAEA’s Rays of Hope initiative. Mr. Grossi expressed pride in supporting Panama to create a healthier future for its citizens.
The IAEA’s efforts in health, food, and nutrition were highlighted in several important talks. For instance, Mr. Grossi met with Vietnam’s Minister of Science and Technology, Huynh Thanh Dat, to discuss new rice varieties designed to withstand drought, developed with IAEA assistance. He also spoke with Duncan Wanblad, CEO of Anglo American, about a collaborative project aimed at tackling soil salinity and promoting sustainable farming practices.
International security was another essential topic during the meetings. The IAEA plays a crucial role in global nonproliferation efforts. At the World Economic Forum’s event on global security, Mr. Grossi addressed the challenges facing nonproliferation amid increasing global tensions. He shared the platform with leaders such as Finland’s President Alexander Stubb and Libya’s Prime Minister Abdulhamid AlDabaiba, as well as experts from various organizations.
These discussions are vital as they shape the international community’s approach to health, food security, and peace. The collaboration among nations and organizations aims to create a safer, more sustainable world for everyone.
