From Passion to Profit: How a Mandala Artist Transformed Creativity into a Thriving Business

GREENDALE, Wis. — Christina Destrampe’s work days have transformed significantly.

These days, her office is filled with colorful paper instead of spreadsheets. She creates stunning mandalas by carefully cutting and layering paper.

Christina started making mandalas about four years ago. At first, it was just a hobby. She shared her designs on Facebook, never dreaming it would blossom into a business.

“I took it step by step, adding more as I went along. My support system has been amazing,” she shared.

As her art gained popularity, Christina decided to expand. Instead of only selling online, she sought out local shops in the Milwaukee area. Now, she showcases her work at Serendipity Boutique in Greendale, where she also runs her studio.

But that’s not all. Christina also teaches classes, helping others discover their creativity. She enjoys seeing participants gain confidence as they create their own unique pieces.

“Many say they’ve never felt comfortable showing their work before, but here, they make something they’re proud of. It’s rewarding to show people the creativity they didn’t know they had,” Destrampe said.

Running an arts-based business can be rewarding but also comes with challenges. Christina emphasizes knowing your limits. Operating solo means understanding what you can realistically manage.

She also stresses the importance of financial guidance. “Find an accountant. The things I don’t know are vast. Having a professional to help is invaluable,” Christina advises.
