PALESTINE — Christus Health proudly opened its new hospital and emergency department in Palestine with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and blessing. Local leaders, staff, and community members gathered to mark this significant event.
The new facility spans over 30,000 square feet and will start accepting patients on Monday. It aims to enhance access to essential healthcare services in the area. Barry Lofquist, the administrator for Christus Health Palestine, emphasized that this facility is more than just state-of-the-art technology. “It’s about establishing a ministry of healing,” he said.
Part of Christus’s faith-based nonprofit health system, the new hospital features a 15-bed emergency department and a 10-bed inpatient unit, catering to the community in a warm and welcoming environment. Lofquist described the opening as a milestone for both Christus Health and the city, showcasing their commitment to local healthcare.
The new building is connected to the long-standing Christus Magnolia clinic. This connection facilitates a smooth transition for patients between outpatient visits, emergency care, and inpatient services. Jason Proctor, president of Christus Trinity Mother Frances Health System, remarked on the clinic’s success over the years in serving the community. He expressed enthusiasm about expanding care in one convenient location.
A standout feature of the new hospital is the Swoop portable MRI machine. This innovative system allows for MRI scans by the bedside, enhancing both patient safety and comfort. It was first used at Christus Mother Frances Hospital on Jan. 16. The technology simplifies decision-making for caregivers, making patient care more efficient.
Andrew Smith, the clinical director for both the emergency department and hospital, shared that the emergency team focuses on providing quick and compassionate care. The 10 inpatient beds are designed to create a peaceful atmosphere for those needing longer stays. “We are excited about what we can offer here,” Smith said.
The Palestine facility integrates seamlessly with Christus’s broader network of hospitals and specialists.
