Syracuse is set to face Miami in South Florida this Sunday at 2 p.m. The Orange, initially picked to finish 13th in the ACC, are now in a solid fourth place with a record of 7-3 in the conference and 17-4 overall. They’ve won four out of their last five games, showing impressive form.
Coach Felisha Legette-Jack’s team has been especially strong on the road, with a 3-1 record in ACC play. This ranks them among the best road teams in the conference. Their success is due to a team-oriented approach, with multiple players stepping up in games. In fact, there have been nine instances this season where four or more players scored in double figures.
One standout player is Dominique Darius, who has been lighting it up lately, averaging 17.3 points in ACC matchups. She received the USBWA National Player of the Week award after scoring the game-winning basket against California in triple overtime and later dropping 26 points against Stanford.
Freshman Uche Izoje has also made waves, earning ACC Rookie of the Week six times. Standing at 6-foot-3, he leads the conference with an average of 2.9 blocks per game. Notably, he’s the only freshman in the nation to record averages of 14.6 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game. He’s already notched 10 double-doubles this season.
Historically, Miami leads the series against Syracuse, 22-15, and they have a 12-6 edge in Coral Gables. However, Syracuse has won five of the last six matchups, including all three under Coach Jack. They’ll aim for their fourth straight victory over the Hurricanes this Sunday.
