Montage Technology’s Gen2 MRCD & MDB offers 12800 MT/s, a 45% boost over the first generation
SHANGHAI, Jan. 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Montage Technology has unveiled its Gen2 Multiplexed Rank Registering Clock Driver (MRCD) and Multiplexed Rank Data Buffer (MDB) chipset. This latest chipset, tailored for DDR5 Multiplexed Rank DIMMs (MRDIMM), supports impressive data rates of up to 12800 MT/s. This means faster and more efficient memory for the cutting-edge computing platforms emerging today.
This launch is timely, as the demand for memory bandwidth in data centers is skyrocketing, driven by AI and big data analytics. MRDIMM technology is stepping up to meet these needs, especially now that server processors are packing more cores.
The Gen2 chipset features a clever “1+10” architecture. Each MRDIMM module has one MRCD chip and ten MDB chips. The MRCD chip takes care of control signals, while the MDB chips handle data flow between the memory controller and DRAM. By using double data rate and time-division multiplexing, it can run two memory ranks at once, effectively doubling throughput.
Previously, the Gen1 chipset achieved speeds up to 8800 MT/s and gained popularity among major manufacturers. The new Gen2 chipset, reaching 12800 MT/s, marks a significant 45% performance increase.
“As AI and heavy workloads grow, they push the boundaries of memory technology,” said Stephen Tai, President of Montage Technology. “Our rapid shift from Gen1 to Gen2 shows our expertise in DDR5 technology and strengthens our leadership in memory interfaces.”
Montage Technology also provides a range of memory solutions, including RCD, DB, CKD, SPD Hub, PMIC, and TS. Additionally, they are sampling their Gen5 DDR5 RCD chip, expanding their already impressive portfolio. This allows customers to find everything they need for optimal performance in one place.
