The Indian government is taking significant steps to boost its shipping industry by creating a national container shipping line, the Bharat Container Shipping Line (BCSL). This initiative is designed to enhance the country’s container trade and make it more self-reliant.

It will be financed under the Sagarmala Programme and the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, focusing on modern infrastructure development.
Mr. Sonowal emphasized that these initiatives will strengthen India’s shipping capabilities and enhance port infrastructure. The vision aligns with Atmanirbhar Bharat, aiming for greater self-sufficiency in maritime trade by 2047. He noted that the shipping line would significantly improve India’s presence in global trade.
