Exciting News: FoodRecovery.org Receives ,000 Grant to Enhance Food Recovery Efforts in Manatee County!

FoodRecovery.org has received a generous $20,000 grant from the Bishop-Parker Foundation. This funding will enhance our “Food Recovery Sustainability in Manatee” initiative. With this support, we aim to reduce food waste by rescuing surplus food from local events and improving our online platform, which connects food donors with nonprofits that help families in need.

Here are the main benefits of this initiative:

  1. Broader Coverage: We can now expand our efforts across Manatee County. We expect to save over 500 pounds of food from at least 10 local events, assisting about 415 families.

  2. Tech Upgrades: The grant will improve our free online platform, making it simpler for businesses to donate food and for nonprofits to access it.

  3. Community Support: This initiative is crucial as more than 55,000 people in Manatee County struggle with food insecurity. By reducing food waste, we also support local caterers and restaurants.

In recent studies, it’s been highlighted that food waste has reached alarming levels, with nearly 40% of food produced in the U.S. going uneaten. This program not only helps those in need but also aligns with efforts to combat food waste and promote sustainability.
