Emerald Fennell’s new adaptation of “Wuthering Heights” is getting a lot of buzz before its February 13 release. Critics are calling it a “crowd-pleaser” and predict it’s bound to be a hit for Warner Bros.

Jazz Tangacy from Variety called it “a scorching hot twisted tale” and highlighted the sizzling chemistry between stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. In her words, Fennell’s take on the classic not only ignites passion but leaves viewers emotionally shaken.
Scott Menzel, another entertainment writer, believes this film is set for box office success. He described it as visually breathtaking and predicts strong chances for awards, particularly in cinematography and design. He noted that the tension between Robbie and Elordi is so palpable it’s almost tangible.
Anne Thompson from IndieWire echoed these sentiments, asserting the film would do well at the box office. She emphasized Fennell’s unique visuals and bold storytelling.
This adaptation is based on Emily Brontë’s famous 1847 novel, exploring the tumultuous romance between Cathy, played by Robbie, and Heathcliff, portrayed by Elordi. The story unfolds in 19th-century England, featuring dramatic twists and emotional conflicts.
Fennell has a deep love for Brontë’s work. At a recent festival, she expressed her determination to create a version that resonates with modern audiences. “Wuthering Heights” remains a perennial favorite, with many adaptations over the years, including notable films in 1939, 1970, and more.
Fennell aims to evoke the same raw emotions she felt when she first read the novel. She wants her film to be an intense experience, rich in primal and sexual energy.
