Take-Two Interactive has decided to pause development on the Nintendo Switch 2 version of “Borderlands 4.” This news came from their latest earnings report. The game’s Switch 2 version has now been removed from their list of upcoming titles, previously marked with a “TBA” release date.

Instead, the company is focusing on other major releases, like Rockstar’s highly anticipated “Grand Theft Auto 6,” set to launch on November 19, and “WWE 2K26” coming out on March 13. They also teased upcoming projects, including a new “BioShock” game.

Alan Lewis, a spokesperson for Take-Two, explained, “We made the difficult decision to pause development on that SKU. Our priority is delivering quality content for players and optimizing the game experience.” He added that they are working closely with Nintendo and looking forward to bringing more titles to the Switch 2, including “PGA Tour 2K25” and “WWE 2K26.”

In a related incident, Take-Two’s Rockstar Games recently removed user-generated content from “GTA Online” that depicted the assassination of Charlie Kirk. CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that the company takes violations of their terms of service seriously. “When content violates our terms of service, we act aggressively,” he explained. He emphasized that user engagement is important but not at the expense of safety.

Zelnick also addressed rumors about delaying the release of physical copies of “GTA 6” until 2027 to prevent leaks. He clarified, “That’s not the plan.”

In its report, Take-Two revealed that the previous “GTA 5” has sold over 225 million copies to date. For the November-December 2025 quarter, the company reported net bookings of $1.76 billion but faced a net loss of $929.9 million, amounting to 50 cents per share—a significant drop from last year’s loss of $125.2 million.

As for market expectations, analysts had anticipated $1.58 billion in net bookings.

This shift in strategy highlights the gaming industry’s fast-paced nature, where companies must adapt quickly to focus on high-demand releases, ensuring both profitability and player satisfaction.
