HOUSTON – The UNT men’s basketball team faced a tough loss in double overtime against Rice, ending the game 86-83.
The Mean Green, now at 12-11 with a 3-7 record, played without three injured players. With limited options, three guards had to log over 40 minutes each. They managed to put pressure on the Owls, forcing them into 22 turnovers. However, they struggled with rebounding, allowing Rice to snag 26 offensive rebounds, which translated into 26 points.
Coach Daniyal Robinson praised his team’s effort but acknowledged they needed to improve in key areas. “I loved our guys’ effort today, but we just weren’t sharp enough in certain areas. We will get some rest and continue to learn and grow from this,” he said.
Cole Franklin led the scoring with a career-high 19 points. Je’Shawn Stevenson and David Terrell Jr. contributed significantly too, each adding 18 points. Terrell was especially resilient, playing almost the entire game.
