Did you know that food insecurity affects 1 in 6 people in Northwest North Carolina? Even more alarming is that this includes 1 in 5 children who don’t have enough to eat.
As Valentine’s Day nears, the Allegacy Center for Leadership and Character is asking for your support through the “With Love, From the Forest” campaign. This initiative aims to collect monetary and food donations to help our neighbors in need.
What to Donate:
You can drop off non-perishable food items in the Bitove Lounge at Farrell Hall. Good options are canned fruits, vegetables, grains, soups, and proteins. Think about items that, when put together, create a balanced meal for a family. These donations will go directly to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina.
For those who prefer to give money, you can do so online. You don’t need to join a team or create an account, and you can choose to remain anonymous.
Addressing Hunger:
The issue of food insecurity is not just local; it’s a national concern. According to a 2022 report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, approximately 10.5% of U.S. households experienced food insecurity at some point that year. This signifies ongoing challenges for many families across the country.
Local efforts like the Allegacy campaign show the power of community. Events like this not only provide immediate assistance but can also foster long-term connections. They motivate others to join in, creating a ripple effect of kindness that can change lives.
Let’s come together to support those who are struggling. Your contributions can make a meaningful impact this Valentine’s season. Thank you for your generosity!
