The New York Jets have welcomed Frank Reich as their new offensive coordinator, sparking excitement and optimism for the upcoming season.
Head coach Aaron Glenn praised Reich’s unique blend of experience and creativity. He noted how Reich has seen the game from various perspectives—as a player and a coach. Glenn believes Reich can adapt strategies effectively and maximize player strengths, bringing a fresh approach to the team.
At 64, Reich has a robust coaching background, recently serving as an advisor for Stanford University’s football team. As interim head coach in 2025, he guided the Cardinal to their best season since 2020. Reich has spent 16 years coaching in the NFL, including a stint as the head coach of the Carolina Panthers in 2023 and the Indianapolis Colts from 2018 to 2022, where the team secured playoff spots in both 2018 and 2020.
Reich’s most notable achievement came when he was the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles during their Super Bowl LII win. He successfully worked with both Carson Wentz and Nick Foles to create a powerful offense. His earlier experience includes positions with the San Diego Chargers and as a wide receivers coach for the Arizona Cardinals. Reich’s early coaching days were spent with the Colts, where he grew from an intern to a quarterbacks coach.
Born in Freeport, NY, Reich enjoyed a commendable 14-season playing career after being drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 1985. He was primarily a backup but had a memorable stint as a Jet in 1996, where he played 10 games alongside coach Glenn. During his career, he passed for over 2,200 yards and 15 touchdowns, and he participated in six Super Bowl teams—four as a player and two as a coach.
What stands out about Reich is his knack for comebacks. He led the Maryland Terrapins in a historic comeback against the Miami Hurricanes, throwing six touchdown passes. He also orchestrated a remarkable 35-point rally for the Bills against the Houston Oilers in the 1993 playoffs, showcasing his resilience and skill under pressure.
Reich’s hiring comes at a critical time for the Jets, who are looking to improve their offensive strategy. As NFL teams evolve, adapting to player strengths is key. According to a recent study, successful teams often leverage their players’ unique abilities to stay competitive. With Reich at the helm, fans are eager to see how his experience and insights will shape the Jets’ game plan moving forward.
